‘200 years on: contemporary works in clay’

‘200 years on: contemporary works in clay’ at Nantgarw Chinaworks Museum

Over the past year, the friends of Nantgarw have taken over the lease of the Museum from Rhondda Cynon Taff council.  A small group of us including myself, Anne Gibbs and resident artist Margo Schmidt have starting organising the exhibition schedule, and the first show celebrates 200 years since William Billingsley set-up a fine porcelain factory at Nantgarw.  It’s a very important place as it now combines historical ceramics with what is made today.  It’s also very special due to it’s location and the enthusiasm that is to be had there.

Dros y flwyddyn ddiwethaf, mae ‘ffrindiau’ Nantgarw wedi cymryd drosodd y gwaith o redeg yr Amgueddfa gan gyngor Rhondda Cynon Taf. Mae grŵp bychan ohonom gan gynnwys fi fy hun, Anne Gibbs a’r artist preswyl Margo Schmidt wedi dechrau trefnu’r amserlen o drefnu arddangosfeydd, ac mae’r sioe gyntaf yn dathlu 200 mlynedd ers i William Billingsley sefydlu ffatri borslen yn Nantgarw. Mae’n le arbennig iawn gan ei fod bellach yn cyfuno serameg hanesyddol gyda’r hyn yn cael ei wneud ym maes clai heddiw. Mae brwdfrydedd y ‘ffrindiau’, hefyd heb ei ail!
